This Good Friday, pause for a moment and raise a glass – April 19th, 1979, was the day the first ever issue of Street Machine went on sale. Supposedly the most expensive magazine launch in Europe to date, that May 1979 issue was heralded by print ads and even TV ads, featuring cover star Henry HiRise bursting through a sheet of paper. Will anyone admit to remembering seeing that?!
Fancy yourself as a British Big Chief? You need to check out StreetFighters UK. Bring yourself, your car and your attitude along to Tibenham Airfield on March 29th, where there’ll be all-day grudge racing on a superb runway. It’s £25 for the driver and car, plus £20 for spectators; kids go free.
You can run all day from 10am until 5pm, perhaps have a flutter on the outcome and, best of all, there’ll be a professional film crew on site, filming a pilot for what could turn out to be a UK version of everyone’s favourite TV show, Street Outlaws. Please note that March 29th is a Friday, so call in sick to work, and you need to get your tickets in advance – if you just turn up, you’ve had a wasted journey.
Tibenham Airfield is just south of Norwich – bung NR16 1NT into the map robot – and you’ll find more details by searching StreetFighters UK on Facebook. Subsequent events will also be on the last Friday of the month.
Are you a big fan of Fast’n’Loud? Then stop monkeying around and get yourself along to www.hellsclothing.com, where you’ll find a full range of Gas Monkey, Hoonigan, Diesel Brothers and Quarter Mile official merchandise. T-shirt weather will be here soon – be ready!
You’ll notice there’s no BIVA Patrol in this issue. Sadly, our BIVA Diva, Kev Rooney, is suffering a spot of ill health, and has elected to take a step back for the time being. Here’s wishing Kev all the best, a speedy recovery, and hopefully we’ll get to see him out and about over summer!
Over winter, Serck Motorsport and Santa Pod have teamed up to make sure that the Garage Shop in the pits now stocks more of what the racer and RWYBer really needs. That means those spares and consumables you didn’t know you’d be needing and… wait for it… nitrous refills! Darren Prentice, Track Operations Manager, said, “This answers the perennial question: Will there be nitrous fills available at the track this weekend? The answer is now yes, at every event, including RWYB, Test Days and Drifting, too. We’re delighted to be working with Serck to provide this permanent solution.”
Serck Motorsport aren’t just about cooling systems; they provide a massive range of race parts and services. The parts list will be displayed in the Santa Pod Garage, targeted to help the racer in the event of common failures, plus many attractive parts for the browsing shopper also.
“This occurred to me when I was racing Snow White and needed a ring gear urgently,” said Serck gaffer, Graham Smith. “Luckily I managed to get one, but had I been unlucky, I could have missed out on qualifying. The parts list will therefore evolve to suit the customers’ needs and we will also welcome suggestions from the paddock.” It should be up and running by the time you read this.
